View Seismograms from Last 7 Days - Near real-time displays of Central U.S. seismic events recorded during the last seven days are available for observation and include seismograms recorded at SIUC (e.g. select SIUC BH- NM : Southern Illinois Univ from the list).

Search the Archive (since 1999) - Seismograms recorded at SIUC can be viewed on this web page. This effort is part of the Cooperative New Madrid Seismic Network.

Three component seismometer positioned on a concrete peer in the basement of Parkinson Lab at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale earthquake observatory.


Installation of a St. Louis University broadband seismic station in the SIUC Seismic Observatory (Parkinson Lab basement on the SIUC campus) was completed on Feb. 19, 1999. A three component sensor records the vertical component as well as the north and east oriented horizontal components of seismic events. The seismometer is wrapped inside the foam insulation on the concrete pier as shown in the foreground of the picture above.
